Bahrain Begins Fuel Pump Installations at Four Fishing Jetties

New services for marine users

Bahrain has started work on a project to install fuel pumps at four fishing and marine jetties, a move expected to improve daily operations for fishermen and boat owners. The first installation is under way at Ras Raya, with further pumps planned for Budaiya, Zallaq and Bandar Al Dar. Municipal officials say the initiative answers repeated calls from seafarers for easier access to essential services at coastal facilities. The project is also being presented as part of wider efforts to strengthen Bahrain’s marine infrastructure, support the fishing sector and enhance the country’s appeal as a destination for boating and yachting.

Ras Raya first in line

Fadhel Al Oud, chairman of the Muharraq Municipal Council’s financial, administrative and legislative committee, said the Ras Raya work followed sustained communication with government bodies, including the Oil and Environment Ministry. He said council members had raised the jetty’s needs through recommendations, official correspondence, meetings and site visits.

Ras Raya is regarded as one of Bahrain’s most important fishing facilities and is estimated to account for about 60 per cent of fish supplied to the local market. Fishermen have long pointed to gaps in services, including fuel, diesel, electricity, water, parking and public facilities.

Safety and efficiency gains

Officials say having fuel available directly at the jetties will reduce the need for fishermen and boat users to carry fuel manually from land-based petrol stations. That is expected to save time, lower risks and make trips to sea more efficient.

Budaiya municipal councillor Mohammed Al Dossary welcomed the planned fuel station in his area, describing it as an important improvement for fishermen and recreational sea users. He said easier fuelling access would create safer and more practical working conditions.

Part of a broader maritime push

The pump installations fit with Bahrain’s Economic Vision 2030 and its wider drive to develop boating and yachting activity. Recent measures to simplify navigation permits for visiting vessels and private-sector marine tourism initiatives have added momentum to efforts to modernise the kingdom’s waterfront facilities.
