The United Nations in Bahrain has presented its 2025 Country Results Report, outlining progress made during the opening year of the United Nations Sustainable Development Co-operation Framework 2025-2029. The document reviews joint work between Bahrain and UN agencies to advance national development priorities and the Sustainable Development Goals. It was submitted to government representatives during a Joint Steering Committee meeting at the Foreign Ministry. The report places the first year of implementation within Bahrain’s broader development agenda, including Bahrain Vision 2030, and highlights efforts across social, economic, governance and environmental areas.
Four key priorities
The report is structured around four strategic pillars: People, Prosperity, Peace and Planet. Under these areas, work in 2025 focused on improving health outcomes, strengthening social inclusion and supporting well-being across society.
It also points to initiatives aimed at sustainable economic transformation, stronger governance systems, institutional support for human rights, wider participation by young people and further progress on gender equality.
Climate and resilience
Environmental sustainability was also identified as a major area of co-operation. The report notes work linked to climate resilience and responsible stewardship of natural resources, reflecting the growing importance of climate-related planning in national development strategies.
UN Resident Co-ordinator in Bahrain Khaled El Mekwad said the partnership had produced tangible results during 2025, with efforts supporting inclusion, economic change, environmental responsibility and stronger collaboration across society.
New co-ordination mechanisms
As the first year of the current framework cycle, 2025 also saw the creation of new structures to guide implementation. These included Joint Results Groups bringing together government bodies and UN entities to improve oversight, co-ordination and national ownership of shared priorities.
The year coincided with the UN’s 80th anniversary, which was marked in Bahrain through activities involving public institutions, civil society, youth and the wider community.
Regional context
The report also refers to a challenging regional environment and stresses the continued need for international co-operation in addressing development pressures. Mr El Mekwad reaffirmed the UN Country Team’s commitment to working with Bahrain and its partners to support an inclusive and prosperous future.
