Undersecretary of the Ministry for Agriculture Eng. Ahmad Al-Ayadah noted that the workshop aims at shedding light on the importance of genetic improvement to increase the efficiency of cows milk production and having a firsthand look at the latest findings of scientific studies and modern technologies to develop this sector.

He pointed out that the ministry, through the genomics laboratory, has embarked on cooperation with the private sector to improve livestock production through using the latest technologies of genetic improvement.

He called on milk production companies in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to benefit from the capabilities of the laboratory in the field of genetic improvement to increase the quantities of local production.

Worksheets covered several important subjects and mentioned that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s milk production stood at 2.6 million tons, and that there are serious steps to increase milk production through genetic improvement and that milk-producing cows can be negatively or positively affected by the surrounding environment.

The worksheets also noted that selection of genes of animals increases the production percentages, stops diseases and detects them in early stages. — SPA
