Bahraini Farmers Invited to Apply for Subsidised Urea Fertiliser

Bahraini farmers have been invited to register for subsidised urea fertiliser as part of a new support programme aimed at strengthening local agriculture and easing access to key production supplies. The initiative is being carried out through a partnership involving the Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture Ministry, Gulf Petrochemical Industries Company and the National Initiative for Agricultural Development. Applications are open until October 8, giving eligible farmers a limited window to submit their documents. Officials say the scheme is designed to help active farms meet part of their seasonal requirements while ensuring that assistance is directed to genuine agricultural activity.

Support for local farms

The programme will provide 25 tonnes of urea fertiliser, equal to 500 bags of 50kg each. Distribution will be linked to the cultivated area of each approved farm, allowing supplies to be allocated according to actual production needs.

Agriculture Under-Secretary Assem Abdullatif said the effort reflects the value of co-operation between public bodies and national companies in supporting farmers and advancing sustainable agricultural development.

Who can apply

Applicants must be Bahraini citizens and their farms must be registered with Agriculture Affairs. The farms should also be actively used for agricultural purposes when assessments are carried out.

The ministry will rely on its records to confirm cultivated areas and may conduct field visits where needed. Officials said this verification process is intended to promote fair distribution and ensure the fertiliser reaches productive farms.

How distribution will work

The subsidised fertiliser will be allocated based on each eligible farm’s verified cultivated land. This approach is intended to match support with practical farming requirements and help maintain productivity across Bahrain’s agricultural sector.

The initiative also supports broader efforts to encourage local food production and improve the availability of essential farm inputs.

Application details

Farmers can apply by visiting the Production Follow-up and Agricultural Services Section office in Hoorat A’ali. Required documents may also be sent through WhatsApp to 17981412 during the registration period.
