Bahrain has called for stronger regional cooperation to confront climate and environmental challenges, with Amina Hamad Al Rumaihi, Chief Executive Officer of the Supreme Council for Environment, underlining the need for coordinated action across the region. Speaking during Oman Climate Week 2026 in Muscat, she said shared platforms are vital for aligning climate priorities, exchanging expertise and accelerating practical solutions. The event, held at the Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre, brings together government officials, specialists, international organisations and academic institutions to discuss emerging environmental issues and ways to support sustainable development across the Gulf and beyond.
Focus on shared climate priorities
Oman Climate Week 2026 is organised by Oman’s Environment Authority in cooperation with global organisations and academic partners. Its programme includes dialogue sessions and specialised scientific conferences addressing key themes such as waste management, circular economy models and renewable energy.
Al Rumaihi said regional gatherings of this kind help countries and institutions learn from one another, compare policy approaches and showcase new initiatives. She noted that such forums also provide access to the latest environmental technologies, practices and solutions.
Innovation centre welcomed
The Bahraini official welcomed Oman’s announcement of a cooperation programme to establish an Environmental Innovation Centre. The initiative involves Oman’s Environment Authority, Petroleum Development Oman, the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority, and bodies concerned with small enterprises, research and innovation.
She said the planned centre could strengthen environmental entrepreneurship by supporting promising ideas and helping transform them into practical projects. According to her, the initiative is expected to contribute to solutions for environmental pressures, encourage green-economy growth and advance broader sustainable development goals.
Bahrain-Oman cooperation highlighted
Al Rumaihi praised the organisation of the climate week as a useful venue for professional exchange and discussion of new developments in the environmental sector. She also pointed to the close relations between Bahrain and Oman, noting that cooperation between the two countries continues to expand in climate and environmental fields.
She reaffirmed Bahrain’s support for regional platforms that bring together policymakers, experts and institutions to share knowledge, strengthen partnerships and pursue common environmental objectives.
