Bahrain Industry Ministry and Safaa Partner to Advance Green Manufacturing

Bahrain’s Ministry of Industry and Commerce has entered into a new cooperation agreement with Safaa W.L.L. aimed at accelerating the shift toward cleaner and more responsible industrial activity. The memorandum of understanding is designed to help factories improve environmental performance, adopt sustainable operating methods and support the Kingdom’s broader green economy agenda. The deal places particular emphasis on expanding the Green Factory Label programme, a national initiative intended to encourage manufacturers to reduce their environmental impact while improving efficiency. Officials say the partnership will also help industrial companies align more closely with Bahrain’s long-term climate and economic development objectives.

Agreement signed at GCC industry forum

The MoU was signed by Eman Ahmed Al Doseri, Undersecretary at the Ministry of Industry and Commerce, and Talal Arif Al Oraifi, Chief Executive Officer of Safaa. The signing took place in the presence of Industry and Commerce Minister Abdulla bin Adel Fakhro during the first Made in GCC Forum and Exhibition.

Focus on Green Factory Label

The cooperation will support the continued development of the Green Factory Label, which was introduced by the ministry in December 2023 under the Industrial Sector Strategy 2022–2026. The programme is also linked to Bahrain’s national target of reaching net-zero carbon emissions by 2060.

Through the agreement, both parties will work to encourage factories to use cleaner technologies, improve resource efficiency and adopt solutions that reduce environmental harm across manufacturing operations.

Emissions and ESG support

The partnership covers work on measuring and managing greenhouse gas emissions and carbon footprints. It also includes preparing emissions inventories, developing reports and identifying practical steps to reduce, manage or offset emissions.

In addition, the cooperation is expected to strengthen environmental, social and governance practices across the industrial sector, supporting companies as sustainability becomes an increasingly important part of business planning.

Training and awareness programmes

The MoU also provides for workshops and awareness activities focused on new developments in environmental sustainability. These sessions are expected to introduce factories and industry stakeholders to emerging technologies, best practices and practical tools for improving sustainability performance.
