The UAE and Bahrain are advancing Gulf sustainability through renewable energy, water conservation, and economic diversification. Their collaboration, led by ADFD, supports Bahrain’s Vision 2030 and positions both nations as leaders in sustainable development and innovation.
With a continued partnership, the UAE and Bahrain are driving Gulf sustainability through renewable energy projects, water conservation, and economic diversification.
To this end, the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development (ADFD) has played a key role in supporting Bahrain’s Vision 2030, a plan to modernise the economy and focus on sustainability. In 2024, ADFD renewed its support by funding projects in renewable energy, water conservation, and farming. These efforts are helping Bahrain reduce its dependence on oil, tackle climate change, and lead the region in sustainable development.
A standout project from this partnership is a large solar power plant in Bahrain, funded by ADFD. The plant will provide clean energy to thousands of homes, cutting carbon emissions and contributing to global climate goals. The UAE’s expertise in renewable energy has been crucial in launching such projects, with both countries working together on solar and wind energy initiatives. Beyond technology, they share knowledge and best practices to support their shared goal of building diverse, sustainable economies.
The partnership has also focussed on solving water scarcity, a big challenge in the Gulf. Together, they are developing advanced methods like desalination, efficient farming techniques, and better water management systems. These efforts aim to save water, secure supplies, and make farming more sustainable, ensuring resources for future generations.
Bahrain has also benefited economically from its ties with the UAE. Investments from organisations like the Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation and ADFD have helped Bahrain attract global investors and strengthen its position as a financial hub in the Gulf. Projects in renewable energy and urban development are not only creating jobs but also improving the quality of life for local communities.
While the UAE’s support has been vital, Bahrain has also contributed to this partnership by sharing its forward-thinking policies on environmental protection and governance. This mutual exchange has deepened their relationship and helped both countries push for regional and global leadership in sustainable development.
Together, the UAE and Bahrain are making significant progress toward the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals. By focussing on clean energy, climate action, and economic diversity, they are shaping a Gulf region that is ready for a sustainable future and setting an example for other countries around the world.
