Bahrain, small though it may be, specializes in a wide variety of locally produced sweets, some of which are recognized internationally as exclusively Bahraini.
Among these sweets is the Bahraini Halwa, a jelly-like delicacy made up of a mixture of rose water, saffron, cardamon, pistachios and walnuts. Given its popularity among the GCC regions, it is set to be locally produced on a wider scale.
By 2002, a factory producing Bahraini products is set to open and sell and cater halwa to international markets. Currently, however, they are produced by several local Bahraini families who have specialized in the art of confectionery making for the last century and a half and continue to do so even now.
