Manama, May 29 (BNA): The Supreme Council for Environment (SCE) has announced the implementation of Edict (6) of 2025 concerning regulations on fishing using nets, cages (gargoor), fish traps, and handlines (khayya), as part of the Kingdom of Bahrain’s ongoing efforts to protect the marine environment and ensure the sustainability of fishery resources.
The edict aims to regulate traditional fishing tools and curb random practices. It also introduces a complete ban on the use of handlines to safeguard biodiversity and marine resources.
The Council called on fishermen and relevant entities to fully comply with the edict’s provisions, noting that awareness and inspection campaigns will continue to ensure effective implementation and achieve the intended environmental goals.
