Oman’s Public Establishment for Industrial Estates, Madayn, is preparing to develop four new industrial cities as part of the Sultanate’s 2026-2030 five-year development plan. The initiative is intended to widen the country’s industrial footprint beyond its current hubs and channel investment into more governorates. The planned cities will be located in Al Suwaiq in North Al Batinah, Al Mudhaibi in North Al Sharqiyah, Thumrait in Dhofar and Mudhaffar in Musandam. Officials say the programme supports Oman Vision 2040 by advancing regional development, encouraging sustainable urban growth and strengthening the country’s long-term push to diversify its economy.
Four locations targeted
The selected sites place the new industrial zones across northern, eastern, southern and far northern Oman. By spreading development across Al Batinah, Al Sharqiyah, Dhofar and Musandam, Madayn aims to create more balanced growth and give each governorate a stronger role in industrial activity.
Investment and logistics focus
The new destinations are expected to include modern infrastructure and integrated logistics services designed to make them attractive to manufacturers, investors and service providers. Khalid bin Sulaiman Al Salehi, Madayn’s General Manager of Marketing and Commercial Affairs and official spokesperson, said the projects are intended to improve Oman’s investment climate and support sustainable economic expansion.
Private sector role
Madayn evaluates potential industrial city locations by considering how each project can contribute to geographic balance, competitiveness and the economic strengths of individual governorates. The expansion is also expected to create more opportunities for private companies and help build a labour market that attracts both Omani workers and specialist talent.
Sustainable growth goals
Sustainability is a central part of the development approach. Madayn said the plans take into account the responsible use of natural resources as Oman works to broaden its economic base and establish competitive industrial centres capable of supporting long-term growth.
