Oman Manufacturing Sector Contribution to GDP Reaches $9.6 Billion

Oman’s manufacturing industry has strengthened its role in the national economy, with its contribution to gross domestic product at constant prices reaching about RO3.7 billion, or roughly $9.6 billion, by the end of 2025. The latest figures underline the sector’s importance in the Sultanate’s wider economic diversification drive. In the first quarter of 2026, manufacturing activity contributed RO869 million, pointing to continued momentum. Authorities are seeking to build on this progress through long-term industrial planning, export development and closer private-sector participation, as Oman positions manufacturing as a central pillar of sustainable growth.

Industrial targets for 2030 and 2040

Oman’s Industrial Strategy 2040 sets ambitious milestones for the sector. The plan aims to lift manufacturing’s GDP contribution to RO5.44 billion by 2030, before expanding it further to RO10.702 billion by 2040.

The strategy is designed to move the sector beyond capacity expansion and towards a more connected industrial ecosystem, with greater emphasis on innovation, productivity and value-added output.

Exports and re-exports rise

Non-oil merchandise exports increased by 1.5 percent year-on-year by the end of May 2026, reaching RO2.739 billion. The government wants this figure to exceed RO10 billion by 2030, with growth expected across metal products, chemicals, energy-linked industries and food products.

Re-exports also posted strong growth, rising 64.4 percent by the end of May 2026 to more than RO1 billion.

Investment appeal strengthens

Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion Minister Anwar bin Hilal Al Jabri said the indicators show that national policies and initiatives are supporting Oman’s industrial transformation.

He noted that rising foreign direct investment in the industrial sector reflects investor confidence in Oman’s location, infrastructure, economic and industrial zones, incentives and access to regional and global markets.

Focus on local content and jobs

The ministry is working with investors and the private sector to localise priority industries, raise local content and support small and medium enterprises connected to manufacturing.

Officials say these efforts are intended to create quality jobs for Omanis, improve the competitiveness of local products and reinforce the Sultanate’s position as a regional industrial, logistics and investment hub.
