Fishing ban lifted on Spangled Emperor, Rabbitfish, and Seabream

The Marine Wealth Directorate of the Supreme Council for the Environment has announced the
end of the fishing ban for spangled emperor (sheri), rabbitfish (safi), and seabream (andak) in
the Kingdom’s territorial waters. This ban, which came into effect at the beginning of May, will
be lifted tomorrow.

The Marine Wealth Department explained that the fishing ban was implemented as part of a
broader strategy to protect marine resources and replenish fish stocks. This initiative aims to
maintain environmental balance and rehabilitate the ecosystem, in line with Resolution No. 2 of
2024, issued by the Supreme Council for the Environment.

The department has applauded the cooperation and sense of national duty exhibited by
fishermen throughout the duration of the ban, emphasizing that the protection of fish resources
and the assurance of their sustainability within Bahrain’s territorial waters is a shared
responsibility necessitating collaboration between individuals, governmental bodies, and
private entities involved in the fishing industry
