FAO to host Global Conference on Smart Farming focused on scalable precision livestock systems

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) is organizing a three-day Global Conference on Smart Farming aimed at accelerating the adoption of smart agricultural approaches. The meeting will examine how smart farming systems can be expanded responsibly, while highlighting real-world innovations that strengthen digital abilities and entrepreneurship, particularly among young people and women. Discussions will also focus on what governments, partners and investors should prioritize to enable solutions that fit local conditions and can be scaled beyond pilot projects. The programme is designed to connect a wide range of stakeholders, from FAO member countries and policymakers to development organizations, businesses, researchers, universities and farmer representatives.

Smart farming solutions tailored for real-world needs

Organizers say the conference will showcase practical innovations and address the challenge of scaling what works in specific farming contexts. A key theme will be how digital tools and smart practices can be implemented in ways that remain feasible for producers operating under different constraints, including limited resources and varying levels of infrastructure.

Precision livestock farming as a focus area

The event’s title spotlights precision livestock farming and its potential contribution to sustainable livestock transformation. Participants are expected to consider how technology-enabled approaches can support productivity, animal health and more sustainable management across livestock systems.

Policy, partnerships and investment priorities

Beyond technology demonstrations, the conference will identify priorities for policy actions, collaboration mechanisms and investment needs. The goal is to help move from individual projects to broader, scalable solutions—especially those that can benefit small-scale farmers.

Broad participation across the agriculture ecosystem

The conference will convene stakeholders worldwide, including FAO member states, policymakers, development partners, representatives from the private sector, research institutions and academia, as well as civil society organizations, youth groups and farmers’ organizations.
