FAO Launches Livestock and One Health Knowledge Hub to Improve Data Access

FAO has introduced a new digital platform designed to make livestock information easier to find, compare and use for policy and planning. The Sustainable Livestock Transformation and One Health Intelligence and Knowledge Hub was launched in Rome on 22 September 2026 during the FAO Global Conference for Actions on One Health in Agrifood Systems. The platform brings together data, analytical tools, visual resources and knowledge products related to livestock systems around the world. It is intended to help governments, researchers, development partners and other users better understand how animal production, health, climate, environment and socio-economic issues intersect.

A central gateway for livestock data

The hub gathers a wide range of livestock-related information in one place, including data on animal populations, production systems, animal health risks, antimicrobial resistance, climate impacts and environmental pressures. Users can explore information by theme or geography through dashboards and other digital tools.

By combining material that is often held across different systems, the platform aims to provide a more complete view of livestock trends and risks. This integrated approach is particularly important as livestock sectors face overlapping challenges, including disease threats, changing production patterns and pressure on natural resources.

Interactive tools for analysis

A key feature of the launch is an interactive digital wall at FAO headquarters. It uses maps, dashboards and data visualizations to help users navigate livestock information across countries, regions and subject areas. The same hub is also available remotely on computers and mobile devices, widening access for users outside Rome.

The platform is designed to support analysis, modelling, risk assessment, early warning and evidence-based decision-making by allowing users to connect information from multiple sources.

Linking knowledge to action

In addition to data, the hub provides access to knowledge resources and information on livestock projects at country, regional and global levels. FAO says the initiative is part of broader efforts to strengthen the use of evidence in policies, investments and strategic planning.

By improving access to livestock intelligence, the hub is expected to support more efficient, inclusive, resilient and sustainable agrifood systems while advancing the One Health approach.
