The Ministry of Industry and Commerce in Bahrain has said that essential food items remain available across local markets and that the country holds a sufficient, secure strategic stockpile to cover demand. The announcement was made in response to recent developments that have raised public concern about supply levels and pricing.
According to the ministry, ongoing measures focus on ensuring uninterrupted distribution and preventing any impact on product availability or cost stability. It also highlighted steps being coordinated with relevant partners to strengthen readiness in the coming period.
Strategic reserves increased to support market demand
The ministry stated that, in cooperation with the private sector through the Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI), strategic stock quantities of key essential food commodities have been increased. The goal is to maintain steady prices and ensure that goods remain accessible in both wholesale and retail outlets.
Field checks of markets, storage and warehouses
To verify readiness, the ministry said it has scheduled visits to markets, storage facilities and warehouses. These checks are intended to confirm that inventory is appropriately prepared and that supply chains are functioning as expected.
Coordination with manufacturers to sustain production
The ministry added that it is directly coordinating with local manufacturers of essential food products. The aim is to support increased production capacity and help protect national food security in case market conditions change.
No basis for panic buying
Authorities stressed that there is no need for panic buying or stockpiling. They confirmed that supply operations are running normally and that monitoring continues in coordination with public and private partners to safeguard consumers and maintain market stability.
