Bahrain and Oman are joining forces to enhance environmental sustainability and food security through collaborative projects. A recent visit by the Omani Minister of Agricultural, Fisheries and Water Resources, Dr. Saud bin Hamoud bin Ahmed Al Habsi, alongside GCC officials, to Bahrain highlighted this commitment.
Mangrove Expansion
The delegation, hosted by Bahrain’s Minister of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture, Eng. Wael bin Nasser Al Mubarak, toured a mangrove plantation project at GPIC (Gulf Petrochemical Industries Company). This initiative supports Bahrain’s national efforts to combat climate change. The “Mangroves Bahrain” initiative aims to quadruple the number of mangrove trees by 2035, contributing to the Kingdom’s goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2060.
GPIC’s Contribution
GPIC’s CEO, Eng. Yasser Al Abbasi, showcased the mangrove plantation project, emphasizing its positive impact on biodiversity and coastal protection. The company has already planted over 260,000 mangrove trees in partnership with the Ministry.
Agricultural Advancements
The group also visited Peninsula Farms, where they learned about innovative agricultural and livestock production techniques designed to boost output and strengthen food security. Research and development projects were also highlighted.
Commitment to Cooperation
Dr. Al Habsi praised Bahrain’s pioneering projects and commitment to advancing agricultural production. He noted that these experiences reflect the dedication of GCC countries to achieving food security, preserving the environment, and promoting joint Gulf cooperation.
