Buthoor Al Bahrain Campaign Distributes Over 8,000 Trees Since Launch in October

The Ministry of Municipalities and Agriculture Affairs’ Undersecretary, Engineer Shaikh
Mohammed bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, has confirmed the success of the “Buthoor Al Bahrain”
campaign, which has distributed over 8,000 trees since its launch in October. The initiative has
actively engaged with various communities and institutions across Bahrain, visiting numerous
locations and working closely with local communities, educational institutions, and civil
organizations.

The Undersecretary highlighted that the campaign, in collaboration with the United Nations
Human Settlements Programme, has received significant participation. Its primary aim is to
involve communities in the greening process. Throughout the campaign, the “Buthoor Al
Bahrain” mobile truck, also known as the campaign’s ambassador, has visited more than 40
locations across Bahrain, distributing trees and raising awareness about the importance of
urban greenery. One of the campaign’s key priorities is fostering direct interaction with local
communities, helping to build a sustainable urban future for Bahrain.

“The distribution activities promote awareness about the benefits of green spaces in urban
areas, aligning with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goal 11, which focuses on sustainable
cities and communities,” said Shaikh Mohammed. The tree distribution has reached various
locations, including all municipalities across the Kingdom-Manama, Southern, Northern, and
Muharraq. The campaign has extended its outreach to schools, private companies, government
institutions, community organizations, parks, diplomatic bodies, and major local events.

Dr. Fernanda Lonardoni, Head of the UN-Habitat Program in Bahrain, praised the initiative,
saying, “The campaign is a testament to Bahrain’s proactive approach to environmental
conservation, encouraging communities to participate in greening efforts and raising
awareness about its importance. It’s a vital step towards a greener urban future for Bahraiin. By
working closely with our partners and communities, we are building a sustainable future for the
Kingdom.”

The “Buthoor Al Bahrain” campaign continues to invite individuals, organizations, and
stakeholders to join forces in expanding this green initiative and contributing to Bahrain’s
sustainable urban future. For more information on the campaign and upcoming events, visit
